When The City Loosens

This series documents Shoreditch in East London during the transition between evening and night, when the district begins to shift away from its daytime commercial identity. Known for its street art and independent creative culture, Shoreditch presents a constantly changing urban landscape shaped by unofficial forms of expression. The photographs observe how graffiti, signage, transport infrastructure and temporary social spaces coexist within the city. Murals spread across railway arches, construction barriers and brick facades, while fences, underpasses and artificial lighting create layers of movement, restriction and visibility throughout the area. Symbols and repeated characters appear across different locations, turning walls into an evolving visual language that changes faster than the architecture surrounding it. Shot using an observational approach in available light, the photographs examine how unofficial culture occupies and negotiates space within a highly regulated city. As daylight fades, Shoreditch begins to reveal a parallel identity: one shaped less by instruction and commerce, and more by improvisation, tension and collective expression.
